The Escort Passport 9500i is so advanced, so effective, and so good at warning you of oncoming radar bands that it is used by even the most discerning drivers and motoring enthusiasts.
This unit is in fact our radar detector of choice, and a number of people here in our office have this exact model. That was particularly helpful when it came time to review it, because not only do we have testing results, we also have user experiences to include in our analysis as well.

Band Detection
By now, you should have come to the realization that Escort never stops short of providing detection ability for every band in existence. In addition to this, the Escort Passport 9500i Radar / Laser Detector has an on board GPS receiver, which allows the machine to store the locations of areas where you find speed cameras or fixed red light cameras, so that you can have advance warning of these in the future.
Additionally, areas where there are numerous false alarms can be flagged, so that sensitivity in that area is decreased each time in the future - ultimately resulting in an overall improvement in notification reliability.
Display & Layout
The Escort Passport 9500i Radar / Laser Detector looks good, and we like it because of the sleek finishing and simple menu navigation. There are 6 buttons in total on the top, which makes for very simple programming and selecting of functions and options. Once you get used to these buttons, it is also very simple to push them whilst driving, because of the small bumps which set each key apart.
Unique Technology
AutoVolume, Voice Alerts, and SWS compatibility are all unique technological advances which are worth a mention here.
The AutoVolume feature provides an initial, loud notification of a new band being detected, then automatically drops this volume down to prevent it becoming annoying.
The Voice Alerts feature is a nice addition also, with new bands announced by a human voice, which is then followed up with beeping at a pace relevant to the signal strength.
Finally, SWS compatibility provides advance warning of road hazards, approaching emergency vehicles (such as fire and ambulance), and notifications of road work areas, so that you can take preventative action.
Performance & Range
We asked the people here in the office what they thought about the overall performance of the Escort Passport 9500i Radar / Laser Detector - and the general opinion was that it is an amazingly powerful, accurate, and reliable radar detector. This was quickly backed up by our on road testing, which proved that range and performance are at the very top of the industry ladder.
