If you're specifically looking for an area of poor performance, band detection definitely isn't it. The Beltronics V955 Vector Radar Detector boasts one of the most comprehensive selections of band detection available - including K, Ka, X, Ku, Laser, and SWS. Comparing the V955 with a top level Beltronics machine will only yield a 2 to 3 band differences which is quite remarkable.

As you would expect, the device is VG-2 immune - which basically means that radar detection systems used by law enforcement or other agencies will not be able to detect the device in your vehicle.

Display & Layout
This is the most prominent area of difference between the Beltronics V955 Vector Radar Detector and other Beltronics devices. Where the company usually goes out of its way to impress the driver by installing glowing neon blue LED's or shiny silver buttons, the V955 has none of these luxury add-ons.

The casing is plastic, with 4 buttons on the top, and a screen which points directly backwards. The display itself is still high quality, with 260 micro-LED's providing a dynamically changing interface.

Unique Technology
The Beltronics V955 Vector Radar Detector features the ever popular SWS (safety warning system), as well as an inbuilt signal filtration device called "AutoScan". This function analyzes all incoming signals at the same time to reduce the frequency of false notifications, and decrease the time between a band being identified and the driver being notified.

Performance & Range
Range on the Beltronics V955 Vector Radar Detector is equivalent to many of Beltronics' top of the line models, with forward detection of Ka Superwide band starting at almost 2,000 meters (direct line of sight). The only pitfall we could find was that rear detection distance almost halves with direct line of sight, to about 1,050 meters.

Still though, these figures are well above many other low to mid range devices, and prove that Beltronics definitely has a key focus on performance and range.

Band Detection
Band detection capability is exactly the same in the Beltronics V995 Vector Radar Detector as it is in the V955 and most of the other Beltronics radar detector products. Full X, Ka, Ku, K, and SWS are all pre-programmed in to the system, and they are all turned on when you start the device up for the first time.

Individual bands can be turned off if necessary - and this may be a handy feature if you do most of your driving in urban environments. X band tends to become a constant beep as shop alarms and the like are detected around town, so we recommend you turn this one off for city driving!

Display & Layout
The Beltronics V995 Vector Radar Detector has a much prettier design than its cousin, with a polished silver casing providing slightly more contrast. The user display is exactly the same, with 260 Micro-LED's allowing for a variety of things to be shown on the screen. This is particularly useful for the Safety Warning System, which is able to alert you to the exact hazard or emergency vehicle up ahead.

Unique Technology
Looking at LED displays is fun for about 20 minutes, but after this it becomes a bit of a bore. Thankfully, the kind folk at Beltronics have programmed in a number of voice alerts, so that your machine will actually announce the detection of a band.

If you're like us, talking devices are impressive (and humorous at times) - so even if for no other reason, the Beltronics V995 Vector Radar Detector definitely gets marks for being "technologically cool".

Performance & Range
The performance of the Beltronics V995 Vector Radar Detector in our testing was not too shabby. False alarms (which are the traditional bane of radar detector owners) are minimized with this device, thanks to the AutoScan feature. This seems to work well, and a number of purposeful X-Band distractions were filtered out on our test track.

As for range, the V995 provided advance warning of the important Ka and POP bands with almost a mile to spare, which is similar to the performance of the V955.

This radar has got it all, including Ka, K, X, Ku, POP, SWS, and so on. Perhaps as a result of the "professional series" tag, Beltronics have decided to equip the Beltronics RX65 RED Radar Detector with a "digital signal processing" unit, which is able to aggregate all of the data it is receiving at any one time to get a clearer picture of what is going on around your vehicle.

During our testing, this seemed to improve range, and was a clear factor in the low instance of false alarms and notifications.

Display & Layout
The Beltronics RX65 RED Radar Detector is not the greatest looking radar detector that we have seen from Beltronics, but it's not ugly either. The display is flat, but can be seen easily from the driver's seat. Whilst we reviewed the Red Display edition, there is also a Blue Display available - which, if previous Beltronics products are anything to go by - would definitely be the cooler option.

User button on the top are easy to feel, even during driving, and the programmable interface is very simply to learn and navigate.

Unique Technology
We've written a lot about Beltronics on board technology in the past, but we've never focused on one very important feature which is included on all of their models - the SWS (Safety Warning System). This system is specifically built to pick up broadcasts of upcoming hazards, before you get to them.

For example, if there are road works up ahead, you will likely be notified of this with enough warning to reduce your speed. The same is applicable for weather hazards, slow moving vehicles, and so on.

Performance & Range
Performance with the Beltronics RX65 RED Radar Detector is exactly what you would expect from one of the best manufacturers of radar detectors out there. Range is exceptional as usual, with an oncoming Ka-Band being detected from about 3,000 meters (line of sight) and 1,200 meters (blind corners). Rear detection is just as good, and VG-2 immunity makes the device impossible to detect by law enforcement agencies.

The Beltronics STi Driver Radar Detector box boasts that this model has "best-in-class" band detection - which is a fairly big claim to make unless you are totally sure of the truth. Indeed, as far as pre-programmed band detection goes, support was on hand for K, Ka, Ku, SWS, X, and an array of lasers.

Furthermore, a new technology on board referred to as the low noise amplifier (LNA) combined with digital signal processing allows for these bands to be distinguished from false sources (such as car alarms, automatic door units, etc). Ultimately, this cuts false signals down to almost zero - without sacrificing sensitivity.

Display & Layout
Forget the typical top mounted user buttons on this model. All of the navigation buttons on the Beltronics STi Driver Radar Detector are located underneath the user display - which we found was actually highly convenient.

The red micro-led lighting is still in place, and this color scheme has been extended down to the navigation buttons as well - making them visible at night. The unit also has a "quick mount" button at the center top - allowing for a speedy removal from the windscreen if necessary!

Unique Technology
And here we go. The section which probably deserves the longest list of individual mentions. The Beltronics STi Driver Radar Detector is a truly intelligent machine, not just because of each clever piece of technology - but because of the way that each of these individual enhancements work together.

Take for example the LNA and the digital signal processing features. These two things serve almost no purpose by themselves - but when put together, the result is exceptional. The same goes for the TotalShield system and the VG-2 protection.

The most important new features you need to know about are the "full dark mode" display - which allows the machine to operate at night with absolutely no visible signals.
